How Discord helped Fall Out Boy drive $2m ticket sales in under 24 hours

There's no closer connection between musicians and fans than a live show. That's why it's a massive priority for Levellr to get tickets into the hands of true fans who make an event's atmosphere something special.

2023 saw artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Noah Kahan, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Drake, Doja Cat and Fall Out Boy playing huge live tours. When artists like this look into the crowd, they want to see passionate fans singing back at them. So it's important fans can access tickets whatever their budget, and the biggest fans can turn up for their favorite artist in the perfect place in the crowd.

When events like Beyoncé's Roseland Ballroom shows sell out in 22 seconds, it's clear that superfans need help getting their hands on tickets.

Messaging app Discord is the ideal place to meet this challenge, because it's where superfans gather. When you run a Discord server for an artist, you're in a unique position to make sure genuine fans get access to the best seats. Fans love pre-sales and exclusive ticket availability, and these are protected from unscrupulous resellers who might take those tickets straight to the secondary market.

Levellr are working on this through our ticketing integration, which makes it seamless to sell tickets and then track sales to your Discord server.

As an example of the integration in action, legendary band Fall Out Boy used the Levellr integration to generate millions of dollars of ticket sales for their 2023 US tour.

The multiplatinum band delighted their fans by using our integration to run a pre-sale for the upcoming concerts. Levellr suggested announcing the pre-sale within the Discord server, following up the news with dedicated threads for each show. We then set up our ticketing integration to track the individual show links, pinning each show’s link directly in the relevant tour thread.

The results were incredible:

  • 10,000 fans in the private invite-only server
  • 49,188 messages and emojis sent on the day
  • 25,000 tickets sold
  • $2 million overall sales tracked from Discord in the first 24 hours

The band and their team were delighted with these outcomes, most importantly because they knew tickets got into the hands of the fans they love to see at their shows.

Fall Out Boy's management company Crush Music knows the importance of protecting access for real fans. Crush CMO Dan Kruchkow said, "We have a private server which ensures only our hardcore fans get access, and there are no scalpers in there. Levellr helped us sell a truckload of tickets, but the best part was we made sure our biggest fans got access to the best seats directly. That’s a big point to all the FOB team. The availability of tickets on the secondary market (after the initial presales) were very limited, signaling that our biggest fans scored the seats they were looking for direct from the primary seller and not having to struggle with the secondary market when demand is the greatest."

Levellr is proud to help get more tickets into the hands of fans, not resellers.
